anyway, for those of you who still haven’t heard about it yet, I entered some vocal song cover competition by Shure. i submitted my entry for fun (like, seriously.)
then a few days later i received an email from them, saying that i am now one of the top 5 finalists, blah blah blah.
i seriously thought it was spam mail, until i went back to the website to check.
then i was gaping in disbelief for the first hour and a half, then i went to tell junqi lynette foda they all.

why was i gaping?
oh well idk.
maybe cos i didnt believe that i will get in. out of 22 entries in that category!
and im the only singaporean in the top 5 wow *stressed*
and that im guessing im the youngest (if not 2nd youngest) contestant in the top 5 D:
meaning i don’t really have very wide contacts to help me vote bleah.

ok so yesterday was Maundy Thursday.
i rushed to bishan and reached there earlier than my family lol.
huge jam i tell you D:
we had service in the big hall.
the ambience was awesome, and the elders&pastors decided to teach us about the Last Supper this year,

so we had an reenactment of the Last Supper. cool huh.

learnt a bunch of things. why the tables were placed like an inverted U shape, they way they sat/laid eating, where does the host sit, how to greet in Hebrew (Shalom Alehem), what kinda veg should dip in which sauce, etc.
Anyway i ate mutton, walnuts, grapes, eggs, cucumber, and there was a whole lot of veg with different kinds of sauce just that i didnt try those. too lazy to ask for it to be passed down.

Had holy communion too.
3 small cups of grape wine (i cannot stand the taste so i was like >_< the whole time)
and woah, the bread was super huge!

then we had our tradition of putting candles surrounding the cross.
We were barefooted the whole time we walked down to the carpark lol!

hmm. puzzling.
usually at 3pm on Good Friday it will rain O_o

ok so ytd cca took about half of the day. had to go MUCH earlier than usual to prac for april’s cca drive. ate cup noodles for dinner. then usual prac. then stayed back to discuss cca drive with conductor. then conductor left. then 4 of us continued discussing about it.
and it went really really LATE til i took the last red line train back,
and MISSED THE LAST BUS home!
thank goodness for the last train tho. lol.
i called home and expected my dad to scold&nag at me for coming home so late.
to my surprise, he was super calm about it. no hints of anger, sarcasm, or whatever.
hmm.
he even came out of the house, crossed the overhead bridge, and met me halfway while i walked home from tpy mrt. i <3 my dad!
cos it was awfully dark and quiet. super scary! D:
and i arrived home tired and super hungry. sadface.



[later that night.....]
i never believed that calming tea actually worked. LOL
my sis bought it, supposedly to cure her insomnia or sth.
she made a cup for me, and i drank it, not believing that it was supposed to help me go to sleep.
just within minutes, i suddenly felt super lethargic. idk how to describe it, but this wave of fatigue just loomed over me. it was a sudden drowsiness. somewhat like after i eat my airsick pills. heh XD
and im like, “oh man this actually worked!” :O
infact, i slept so well i overslept for work this morning. boo.
thank goodness i still managed to get there on time. hee XD
WARNING: never drink calming tea before work. or you will have a sleep too nice for your own good HEE!

work was fun. MORE FUN than expected. lol.
it was my 1st time assisting in a sec sch. im always working in pri sch.
didnt have to guide the kids as much. haha.
I must apologise to you guys, i promised to sms you early in the morning.
but it turned out i had FOUR CLASSES instead of one! and a total of 1 hour break in e middle. my boss didnt mention it was 4. lol.
so it took my entire morning.
by the time i came back i had no time to nap already lol.
i already didnt have any time to sleep last night due to the arriving home late and all.
and work time today starts at some ungodly hour
it didnt help that it was pretty far from where i live lol

ok so i was trying to recall who would be coming for bob’s concert bcos i left the list of names at home (in my laptop actually)
and on the 1hr bus ride home after work i hurriedly composed an sms to all 15 people the details of the meetup.
i think i have just wasted about a million smses today. LOL.
but more importantly, i felt bad. and guilty
for not being a good organiser for the meetup today.
to put it simply, i was quite shite.
bcos im not really picky. so i usually cant decide where to eat.
thank goodness for chris who mentioned Subway, so we trooped there to eat.

ok anyway, wow 10 days seemed so long at 1st, but it just went by in a snap.
suddenly, it was time to go home.
i was actually so used to the life there, (i feel so thai lol) i came home and was blur like a sotong with everything.
i mixed up tap water with kettle water, and i forgot how to take mrt etc.
im serious.

after leaving our thai friends at Chiang Rai Airport, we flew to bangkok airport. and we were already starting to miss them. sigh.
you know what’s the worst feeling?
being stuck in transit.
not knowing where to go, what to do.
(yea and being broke, hungry but having to scrimp bcos it’s airport food, it’s supposed to be expensive yikes X_x)

though this is my third time in mae chan, it’s my first time here on holiday, not as part of mission trip.
i realised that when we are at our most relaxed, we learnt the most.
whether it is in a game or in competition or whatever.
amazing, but true.
i didn’t expect myself to go there and learn anything. i didn’t have a plan. i don’t even know what to expect. i didn’t even have a clue as to where they will be bringing us.

had a taste of sanctity in the fields, forest, rivers, mountains, etc
for once actually hearing the sounds of nature
enjoying God’s creations
taking in the breathtaking sights
and smelling the haze
(yes ok they were burning forests, it’s that time of the year)

on the 3rd day they said they were going to bring us fishing.
i was like, oh ok. fishing
little did i know…
i had to climb 6 MOUNTAINS and a few RIVERS
like some of the slopes were NO JOKE.
they were about 10º from vertical!!
ok maybe 20º. but you get the point.
my slippers kept getting stuck in the river. luckily my thai friends managed to help me get it back
so the whole time i was like,
half screaming, half complaining, half whining
like some pampered little kid
(bcos, well, do i even look fit to you? hah)
and those small little thai kids that went with us, they were RUNNING uphill and downhill like nobody’s business!

and there was i, walking slower than my grandma..
and the bigger ones carried stuff to eat IN THE FOREST.
like, ok
how is it even possible to PLAY GUITAR while climbing mountains and crossing rivers?!
WTH i cant even stop screaming and being afraid of falling to my death especially for those super narrow mountain paths O_o
finally, we reached. surprisingly i wasn’t tired at all.
i only was tired when we had to climb back that 6 mountains and crossed those few rivers in between. yea halfway through i just wanted to drop dead and all D:
so our final destination was just…..
a river.
that’s it. and it was next to this mini waterfall
and we rested for awhile, and some of them were playing with the water (hey natural swimming pool, free yo!)
and some were catching fish
they used those HUGE goggles and those little fishing nets. im serious. whatever happened to fishing rods. oh yea i dont think they can afford lol
and over at the other side there were people making fire with just wood.
they totally can survive in the wilderness foreals
if it was me, HAHAHAHA, goodbye man.
they made mango/papaya salad, and 2 cartons of instant noodles
they brought trays, bowls, plates, chopping board, cutlery, pots and pans, water.
oh and guitar of course.
imagine carrying all that WHILST climbing 6 mountains and crossing rivers! tsk.
apparently they grew up doing that.
but idk, will i ever get used to it?

ok i realised im only at day 3.
i need to summarise lol

鸡犬不宁 is a Chinese idiom which literally translates to chickens and dogs making a hell lot of noise. I used to use that idiom when describing people arguing (&screaming) with each other, and are rather oblivious to their surroundings.
But i never knew how it felt like until we were going to sleep on the first night, and at the stoke of midnight,
I SUDDENLY HEARD AN ORCHESTRA OF COCKERELS AND DOGS, crowing and barking their heads off.
im serious.
MIDNIGHT. all the way until in the late morning.
for all 9 nights.
sometimes it’s the entire orchestra together, sometimes it will be simultaneous. it’s like they are competing for some event.
it doesn’t help that they come from all the houses surrounding the one we stayed in, so basically we had good surround sound.
it also didn’t help that we had the mosquitoes to keep us awake D:

i love mae chan because, where else can you get to sit on lorries and motorbikes?
im beginning to love sitting on motorbikes! <3 cool stuff.
apparently u have to be 15 to get ur license. so most of my thai friends are eligible lol.
besides the police ain't so strict there
i sat on motorbikes almost everyday. shiok. the wind blowing onto your face, til you feel your nose coming off.
at 7+pm every evening you feel these little worms in your face (eww D:) but you can't see them. they are that small. lol.
i must apologise to mae chan though, the first few times when i sat on a motorbike i will start screaming. and irritate the entire town :/



i miss the padthai there!! :’(
and the yellow mee thingy that the lady of the house cooked. wah it’s so good she should set up a stall in singapore. seriously.



in a few days we kinda explored the whole of mae chan already. they didnt know where else to bring us lol.
so we went to Chiang Rai, for more sightseeing and shopping,
went to Mae Sai, and the famous Golden Triangle where the 3 countries meet,
and almost went into Myanmar
(there were nicer things to see there)
but to enter Myanmar it costs about 500 baht (roughly SGD22) for tourists who enter from Thailand
and if u take pics there u need to pay money too wth
for our thai friends it only costs 30baht –> look at the disparity!



on the last day we went to the outskirts of ChiangMai. the roads were so rocky and everything. i got abit carsick. thank God i didnt puke or anything



oh yes they crack their half-boiled eggs in soyamilk and eat it like that.
all i have to say is, it tastes like soyamilk and egg. HAHAHA. i mean, the 2 don’t mix what. they still have their distinct taste and whatever..



i miss talking to ah tai infront of his tv and watching Thai drama serials & Thai comedy with him.
there is NOT ONE TV CHANNEL that is in English nor in Chinese.
(english because it’s an international language and all, and chinese because alot of them come from China. we communicate to our Thai friends in Chinese too)
i miss your noisiness (:



i miss talking to jian wei about music. that’s all we ever talk about, basically. hahaha
he’s the 1st ever, and by far they only person, that i have come across, who is rhythm perfect. i mean, you get people who are perfect pitch, but i have never known anyone with perfect rhythm before.
even though you’re quiet but you are actually quite funny (:



i miss talking to the people at mae chan church. i miss laughing with the girls and the teasing one another. i miss eating together with them and talking about everything under the sun.



i missed going to the fields at night when it is literally pitch black and just standing there enjoying the stars and moon. it is like a blanket of stars that spread across the sky. i was told that on that night we went, it was considered little, usually the sky would be flooded with stars. oh wow. you can hardly see the sky with all the buildings over here D:



i missed taking the bus which cost less than SGD1 and get the wind blowing in your face bcos the doors never close and the windows are so old they cant be opened, and there is actually a bus conductor whom u pay your money to (:



ok here comes the important part. lol.

was what she said on the last day when we were eating the breakfast that she cooked for us.
what the lady of the house meant was, “if we knew that we’ll be parting anyway, in the first place, why did we even have to meet/know each other?”
she couldn’t bear to see us leave too



If our church didn’t set up mae chan church,
if i never went for mission trip in the first place,
i wouldn’t have known what LOVE is.
i wouldn’t have experienced so much love the people have for each other
the genuine care and concern for others, even to strangers
i would never have known what true happiness is
having friends who are always around you
who laugh with you and lift you up, making sure you dont fall to your death in the mountains. and always keeping a look out for you.
the people at mae chan have always been serving me
i felt guilty after awhile so i tried to reciprocate and realised that the joy of helping others is actually so fulfilling and satisfying



that unspeakable love. i dont even know how to describe it.
sometimes i see how closely knitted they are with each other, even though they only knew each other for a few years, makes me kinda envious.
i am not not even half as close to my family and friends.
and they looked like they knew each other for life, forever!
温馨 this word came to my mind.
i dont know the english translation for it, probably warmth.

yay came back from chalet yesterday afternoon. was zonked out due to the lack of sleep for the past (more than) 24 hours. I slept the entire afternoon (woke up at about 10pm LOL)

chalet was fun \o/

we had bbq on the first night. didnt really eat much, and i could feel my throat going going gone ;___;

watched American Idol & played my melodica during the commercials.
John Park seriously looks like Caleb. I was like :O when i saw him lololol.

spent the entire night talking to foda lynette irfan while trying not to disturb
val who took half e bed.
she probly had a long day. dozed off 4 times in all.

Then we went to watch tv (again LOL) bcos there was Jamie Oliver & Martin Yan & 以难忘 & Lynette was really excited to watch all of them LOL!
typical of her, the tv guide.

our initial plan was to take photos of the sunrise at the beach. apparently the wind (indicating rain is coming) spoilt our plans ;___; and later in the late morning there was haze too D:
we met the night cyclists and e whole lot of us trooped down to macs :9
yummeh. lol idk why i suddenly felt like eating macs too.

after bfast it was so hot taking photos at the beach we decided to play arcade games.
I never dream of saying this but i kinda got addicted to parapara -_-
i know i sounded so bimbotic saying that, but yea. HAHAHAHA.
then we went to this little playland for kids which reminded me of KidSport last time when i was in kindergarten, and managed to take a few pics b4 we were chased out of the place by some aunty-in-charge. it was for kids until 12 yrs. HEH XD

so we went to the beach twice and arcade twice, to cut the long story short. and left by the 2nd day even tho there was still one more day to go.
if i were to stay on for another night my eyes would be worse than a panda’s and my head would collapse into the cheezeburger during the cheezeburger fest. lols.
but zj told me they ordered like 40 in one go. wow. awesome, ppl!
must have laughed like no mother while ordering. LOLOLOLOL!

one more thing.
i paid $11.30 for the drinks and im dead broke now kthx.
AND ALL I DRANK WAS HALF A BOTTLE OF WINTERMELON TEA AND HALF A BOTTLE OF MINERAL WATER. out of that 8 bottles!!!
like hello, why am i paying so much???

and this morning, i went with my sis to her workplace. at some primary school.
she wants me to replace her on monday and tuesday.
like ok. don’t they have school holidays next week or something? heh.

i will blog about what happened ytd.
there was no choir prac ytd just that those ppl who finished their exams can attend this vocal training session by our conductor.
like ok, it was only the night before that we received a message to choose a musical piece.
i dont really know what to choose, since i am not the type who would spam musical scores (but dont get me wrong, i heart musicals!)
so i went on twitter and asked for help, and grace helped me find XD

ok i was torn apart between selecting One Day More and On My Own, but decided to choose On My Own instead. Bcos ODM was like 15 pages long and my printer is out of ink and junqi helping me print 3 pages wont be pulling her hair off as compared to printing 15 pages lol
i really really <3 One Day More ever since i heard my juniors from cjchoir sing that a few years ago. and i've only just heard On My Own like on that night when grace helped me find :/ but i have decided to risk it lol.
and thanks chery for bringing it all the way to mrt to pass it to me! XD

Anyway, the most embarrassing thing was that i was the 2nd person to sing (there were 2 guys 2 girls there..), so i was like telling my conductor, “can i sing the same song as the previous person?” my senior sang Once Upon a December b4 that. AND MY CONDUCTOR INSISTED THAT I SHOULD SING ON MY OWN!
“why? On My Own is more melodious, more expressive” or whatever his words were..
rawr.
i kept telling him idk the song (i seriously dont) and knowing how bad i am at sight singing AND singing the lyrics at the same time, i kept persisting Once Upon a December. my persistence failed. conductor was already playing the intro for OMO.
oh my goodness X_x
i finally gave in to his insistence (ikr, should’ve just snatched score from the piano and tear it up. but i dont wanna waste junqi’s printing efforts so there)
i did the best that i can. i TRIED ok.
but i ended up singing the wrong note. then my senior kept laughing at me for “zao xia-ing” like hello, how is that zao xia. i just didnt know which note was that -_- i was studying too hard on the lyrics.
oh i was just next to the conductor cos i only had one copy lol. i think i was singing into his ear HAHAHAHA. ok i dont wanna imagine that image >_<
and conductor was like, your high notes are very thin, airy, blah blah blah..
(you know at the note where i was supposed to sing the word 'blind'..)
sigh.
and it's a song meant for alto.
yea ok. but i never was a pure soprano.
nor a pure alto for that matter.

(and i discovered i had natural vibrato! omg i haz healthy voice! )
Note to self: practice breath control!!!!!

yay since it’s the school holidays, i will have time for other things, like composing! \o/
